Where Generations Share the Stage

We bring the joy and therapeutic power of musical theater into senior living communities by partnering residents with high school student volunteers for intergenerational performances that enrich lives on both sides of the stage.

Bridging Two Worlds

The Gap

Residents of senior living communities frequently experience social isolation and a diminished sense of purpose. While many facilities offer recreational activities, few provide structured creative arts programming—and almost none offer participatory musical theater.

The Bridge

Second Act Theater bridges these worlds by bringing musical theater directly into senior living facilities. High school students serve as volunteer performers, vocal coaches, and scene partners alongside senior residents—creating a program that is therapeutic for residents, educational for students, and deeply meaningful for both.

Our Programs

Programming builds progressively from accessible cabarets toward full staged musicals, deepening relationships and skills along the way.

Launch Format

Revues & Cabarets

6–8 weeks

Our entry-level program brings residents and students together for cabaret-style performances featuring classic Broadway standards, themed medleys, and beloved songs from the American Songbook.

Intermediate

Themed Variety Shows

8–10 weeks

As relationships deepen, programming expands into themed variety shows that incorporate spoken scenes, comic sketches, and simple choreography alongside musical numbers.

Flagship

MTI Senior Musicals

12–16 weeks

Our flagship program uses the Music Theatre International Senior Collection—beloved musicals specifically adapted for older adult performers with simplified staging and adjusted vocal ranges.

What We Believe

Dignity First

Every resident is a performer, never a passive audience member unless they choose to be.

Intergenerational Connection

Meaningful relationships between young people and older adults are at the heart of everything we do.

Accessibility

Programming is designed for all ability levels, including participants with limited mobility, hearing challenges, or early-stage cognitive decline.

Joy

Musical theater is, at its core, about celebration—and every session should reflect that spirit.

Community Partnership

We succeed only when facilities, families, schools, and volunteers are all invested.
